When the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College approached Truecraft Drywall & Painting, they weren’t simply looking to repaint a hallway. They wanted to transform a highly visible interior space into a Hall of Fame environment that could celebrate the athletes, achievements, and history connected to one of Boston’s most recognizable athletic facilities.
For a project with that much meaning behind it, getting the details right mattered.
The Goal: Create a Space Worthy of the Reggie’s Legacy
The Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center has been part of Boston’s athletic community since 1995 and has hosted high school, collegiate, and national track and field competition. The facility also serves as the home of Roxbury Community College athletics.
The Center’s leadership wanted to take a long interior hallway and give it a completely new purpose: create a vibrant backdrop for Hall of Fame plaques, photographs, memorabilia, and the stories of the people who have contributed to its athletic legacy.
Their goal was to create a space that immediately felt connected to the Reggie Lewis Center while providing a professional, polished setting for the Hall of Fame displays that would eventually occupy the walls.
Our Approach: Plan the Finished Space Before the First Coat of Paint
At Truecraft, our commercial painting process begins before we open a can of paint.
During our initial meeting with the Reggie Lewis Center team, we discussed the purpose of the space, the visual impact they wanted to create, and how the finished hallway would interact with the plaques and memorabilia that would eventually be installed.
We then developed a visual mockup showing the proposed finished design.
The concept used bright, alternating school colors throughout the corridor to create energy, movement, and clearly defined areas where Hall of Fame displays could be featured. Presenting the concept in advance allowed the client to see the direction of the project before painting began and gave everyone confidence that the finished space would support the larger Hall of Fame vision.
Once the design was approved, our commercial painting team moved into execution.
Commercial Painting With a Purpose
This project required more than simply applying new colors to existing walls. The paint became part of the overall design of the space.
Careful preparation, clean transitions between the alternating colors, consistent finishes, and attention to the sightlines throughout the hallway were essential. Every section needed to work individually while still feeling like one cohesive installation.
The result was a bright, energetic corridor that reflects the identity of Roxbury Community College athletics while creating a strong visual foundation for Hall of Fame plaques, memorabilia, and future displays.
Most importantly, the finished project achieved the client's vision. From the Athletic Director to the Executive Director, the response to the completed space was overwhelmingly positive.
Commercial Painting That Helps Tell Your Organization's Story
Commercial painting can do much more than refresh a building.
For schools, colleges, athletic facilities, offices, retail spaces, nonprofit organizations, and other commercial properties, the right combination of planning, color, preparation, and execution can completely change how a space is experienced.
Truecraft Drywall & Painting works with commercial clients throughout Boston, Greater Boston, and the surrounding Massachusetts communities to transform interior spaces through professional commercial painting, drywall finishing, repairs, and specialty finishing.
Whether you're creating a feature wall, renovating a hallway, updating an athletic facility, refreshing an office, or completing a larger commercial renovation, our goal is the same: understand what you want the finished space to accomplish and build our work around that vision.
